We are excited to continue to support first-year students in their transition to the University.
To honor the complexities each student may experience, we are moving forward with an experience that provides online, live on zoom, and in-person engagement in a scaffolded model throughout the transition period. We will focus on the delivery of transitional programming using a new format involving online, live zoom, and on-campus engagement efforts.
Thank you for welcoming students to campus.

Students will register for A&O on a designated day in May (summer/autumn), November (winter), and February (spring). After the reservation system opens, the link to register for A&O will be listed directly on the FYP website. When students confirm their offer, they can immediately enter the reservation system to sign up for A&O.
Additional notes:
- Pending Submission: Students with a "pending submission" will receive an email encouraging them to continue the process and hit "submit." In most cases, the student believes they have a date but have not continued to the confirmation page.
- About a week after the reservation system opens, FYP student staff will call students who have not moved from the pending submission status.
- No Reservation: Students who have not made a reservation will be emailed every 3 days encouraging them to reserve their space for A&O.
- Shortly after A&O sign-up opens, the FYP Student Staff front desk staff will call the "students not in session" to ensure they do not need additional support. If the student does not answer, we leave a message. If the student does not have an active phone, we send an email.
During the summer, you are invited to connect with incoming first-year Huskies during an Ask the Pack virtual session.
Why: To offer an opportunity for first-year students to learn about and access a wider variety of U.W. resources and connect with U.W. staff and peers in a virtual environment. We made a few changes for the upcoming year:
- We eliminated sessions on Mondays to avoid the overlap with Transfer programming.
- Our hope is that we can promote Wednesday as a day to connect for additional resources.
- Students can attend the session at any point in the summer.
- We moved away from programming during the lunch hour so that students could have a Zoom break in the middle of the day.
Audience: Freshman, Transfer, and International students attending their A&O session.
Format: Campus units have the opportunity to host a session from 4:00 p.m. - 4:45p.m P.T. on Wednesdays in the summer. Sessions can be about anything, so get creative!
- You will have complete control of your session. We do not currently have O.L. staffing, but an FYP staff member will join your Zoom room to collect session attendance.
- Please open the space at least five minutes before the session.
- Students will see your session information on their A&O agenda, which will link to the following website fyp.uw.edu/aoatp. The sessions will be promoted on the New Husky Experiences website.
When: The Ask the Pack sessions will occur on Wednesdays on the dates listed below from 4:00- 4:45 p.m. P.T.
To participate in a session, please email uwao@uw.edu no later than the end of the day on Tuesday, May 30. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact our team at uwao@uw.edu.

When students reserve a space during A&O, they have the option to opt into various topic areas to “learn more.” The students will give consent for you to contact them directly. Please understand the following:
- Students might still be deciding about coming to the UW, so you might see students drop off as enrollment summer continues.
- It is best to download the list and then manipulate the data on your own. You will want to manage your list of who you have emailed and keep a tracking system.
- You can choose which columns you want to see at the top of the page and then sort using the headers.
- You will need to access the list since it contains student personal information. To request access, please complete the FYP Request Form .
If you have additional questions about excel or pivot tables, please do not hesitate to reach out to LeAnne (ljwiles@uw.edu).
Note: Our system has reset for the new calendar year, and there is currently limited student data in the Opt-In Interest List. For the most recent data, please view the archived list.

If you prefer to stay connected with all or a subset of students, consider running a bi portal report. A popular report that we use to see first years is the "All Applicants" report.
First, please request access to the EDW.
Run Report (see picture below)
- Select Report - All Applicants
- Make sure application type is updated
- Make sure application status is 15 or 16 (means that they have confirmed coming to UW)
- Once school starts you will look for application status 12 - enrolled
- Make sure "columns to display" everything is checked
- Once you run the report you will want to remove the "majors to remove" that are listed below.
If you have additional questions about excel or pivot tables, please do not hesitate to reach out to LeAnne (ljwiles@uw.edu).

Remove the following Majors from your data - they are exchange and online students.

Below is the communication process.
- Students check that they understand modules are required in the A&O Reservation.
- Students are emailed a reservation confirmation with the pre-ao link.
- Immediately after registering for A&O
- 2 weeks before their session
- 1 week before their session
- Students are sent a direct email if they have not completed the pre-modules on the following timeline.
- Subject line: Only [3 or 7] Days Left to Complete Pre-A&O Modules
- Seven days before their A&O date
- Three days before their A&O date
- Text messages by the ol (only if they have opted into texting)
- We do have an option to place a hold on a student's account; we have not done so at this time. If you are noticing students are missing information, please contact our staff.
