Husky Adventures

Register for Summer 2009 Adventures by visiting the Husky Adventures website. This year's lineup of activities includes trips to Mt. Rainier and Lake Diablo, the Experience Music Project, an LGBT tour of Seattle, kayaking on Lake Union, and lots more!

What are Husky Adventures?

Husky Adventures are small-group one-day excursions planned to give new students a chance to meet each other and get to know a professor in an informal off-campus setting — before Autumn quarter even begins. Each Husky Adventure is led by a University of Washington faculty or staff member, and is expressly designed to create an opportunity for students and faculty with similar passions and interests to interact, while exploring activities in and around the Seattle area. At least one meal is included.

Our goal is to ensure that any interested student be able to participate in Husky Adventures. If you have any special needs or would like to request an accommodation please let our staff know so that we can arrange for these services. For additional information regarding disability accommodations, please contact UW Disabled Student Services at (206) 543-8924 (voice) or (206) 543-8925 (TTY).

What do students say about Husky Adventures?

Students who participated in the 2005 Husky Adventures report that they found the activities enjoyable and worthwhile and indicated that they appreciated the chance to do something fun and get to know other new students, and the trip leader. Students from previous trips highly recommend them to new students.

What students enjoyed most about the trip:

  • "Getting outdoors and away from the city..."
  • "Cool people, good lunch!"
  • "Interesting discussions..."
  • "It was a fun, beautiful trip that gives you a chance to see the best of Washington's landscape without having to organize the trip yourself."

What previous Husky Adventure participants got out of the experience:

  • "I met people who also live in my dorm and have similar interests."
  • "I learned more about the bus system."
  • "I enjoyed the dinner that we had, and since it was family style, we have to interact with each other, which was good."

In 1908 the University of Washington required students to take an entrance examination. See how you would have done.
First Year Programs empowers entering students to become engaged and confident learners by facilitating supportive communities and creating educational experiences.
