Parent Orientation is a full day of presentations, workshops, and tours for parents and families of first-year students. Parent Orientation is offered in conjunction with the second day of the freshman student Advising & Orientation (A&O) program. However, Parent Orientation is open to parents of both freshman and transfer students.
Your Student Must Make the Reservation
Your student can register parents and other family members for Parent Orientation when they register for an A&O session online. If your student makes a reservation for you and decides to change their A&O date, your reservation will also get moved to that day. Please keep in mind that Parent Orientation may not be appropriate or engaging for younger siblings or children.
Please do not make travel arrangements until your student is registered for A&O and receives a confirmation email.
Parent Orientation will provide you with an overview of the academic and co-curricular resources available to your student. You will meet faculty members, advisers, professional staff, and current students who will share their advice with you. Additionally, Parent Orientation is an opportunity to get your questions answered along with other parents and family members who are going through a similar transition. Orientation Leaders will be available throughout the day to guide you through the program schedule.
Time Frame: 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check-in begins at 7:45 a.m. with formal sessions beginning at 8:15 a.m. Workshops will conclude by 4:45 p.m. with an optional reception from 5 - 6 p.m.
Check-In Location: Kane Hall Lobby (Sessions rotate throughout the day in Kane Hall, Mary Gates Hall, and the Husky Union Building). All buildings are accessible and relatively close to each other. Several optional walking tours are available, so please dress comfortably.
Meals: A continental breakfast & lunch buffet are included in Parent Orientation.
Topics: Topics include academics, housing, tours, health, wellness, safety, finances, and campus resources. Download the Parent Orientation Agenda for an idea of how the day is structured.

Program Fee: $75 for the first parent; $65 for each additional parent
A separate fee is charged in order to participate in Parent Orientation. This fee is billed directly to your student's tuition account and is used to offset the cost of planning the Parent Orientation program (facilities reservations, meals, supplies/materials, staffing, etc.).
This fee is not charged directly to you. Rather, the fee will appear on your student’s autumn quarter tuition statement with payment due no later than the third Friday of the autumn quarter.
A limited number of fee waivers are available to cover the cost of the Parent Orientation registration fee. Your student should reserve your Parent Orientation session to ensure space, then fill out the Parent Orientation Fee Waiver form with the information below:
Traveling to Campus
Explore options for coming to campus. If traveling by car, parking in the Central Plaza Garage near Kane Hall, is included in your registration for Parent Orientation. Instructions on how to access the parking pass is located in your reservation confirmation email. If you cannot find the email please email firstname.lastname@example.org or give us a call 206-543-4905.
On-Campus Accommodations (Housing)
Parents and families are able to make reservations through Housing & Food Services to stay in an on-campus residence hall while attending Parent A&O. Information on rooms available, how to reserve a room, and cost can be found here.
Please visit our Hotel Accommodations website for a list of local accommodations in the University District.
We finalize space, printing, and catering one week before each Parent Orientation session. If you are able, please make any cancellations or changes more than one week before your Parent Orientation date.
Changes made within one week of your Parent Orientation will result in a $20.00 change fee to cover the loss of space, printing, and catering. Additionally, being a no-show, the day of Parent Orientation will result in a forfeiture of the Parent Orientation fee. This charge will be billed to the student’s account.
Changes can be made by email (email@example.com) or telephone (+1.206.543.4905). Please visit the cancellation policy page for more information.
