Before Hybrid A&O Checklist

International Hybrid A&O Part 1

(Online - Course Registration)

1. Know Your Date (Read confirmation email)

Freshman Hybrid Part 1 - Online Advising: 8:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time  - your personal link (see below) will be sent directly to you one week prior to your session.

2. Complete U101

Complete the pre-orientation modules that we will give you access to online! All components will help prepare you for your college.

3. Log into Canvas and Complete Your Pre-Advising Requirements. 

These Canvas modules ( in addition to U101 will provide you with academic overview information necessary for registration. You will also be able to virtually “meet” your Orientation Leader and connect with other International students. These modules should take about one hour.

4. Complete the ISS Online Information Session

You must complete the ISS Online Information Session before you are able to register for classes at A&O. This session will be available starting May 15th. 

5. Check Your Email for Your Personalized Online Advising Link. 

This will be sent to both your personal and your UW email. This session requires a fast internet connection and will last two hours. Audio is required, but a microphone is not. 

6. Take Placement Testing 

Math placement tests are not available to Hybrid A&O participants. If you want to take a Chemistry course in fall quarter, be sure to complete the placement test 48 hours before your online advising session. 

Check to see if you need to take a placement test. All other tests must be taken on campus (including math placement tests) outside of Advising and Orientation.

7. Upload Your Immunization Records 

In preparation for attending your A&O session, you are required to provide proof of immunity.  Note: You will not be dropped from your A&O session and will be able to register for courses. It takes 7-14 business days to process the immunization paperwork. 

8. Register for Embark

You must attend one Embark session, hosted by FIUTS. Please visit the Embark website to register. 

International Hybrid A&O Part 2 (On-Campus - Resources)

1. Know Your Check-In Location

Part 2 Check-in will take place in the Husky Union Building at 7:45 AM and will last until 5 pm. Lunch will be provided.

2. Be Prepared For Walking

Wear casual clothes and comfortable walking shoes. The UW campus is large and you will be walking an average of 1.5 miles (2.4 km) during your A&O session.

3. Bring Your ID

A passport with your issued visa is required in order for you to receive your Husky Card and to take a placement test.

4. Additional Materials to Bring

  • Small Bag/Purse
  • Pen
  • Water bottle

5. Meet New People 

A&O is designed for you to interact with your classmates. Don’t bring friends with you because we’ll be supplying you with new ones! Parents and siblings are welcome to attend a separate Parent Orientation.

6. Get Ready for a Good Time!

Look forward to an awesome time! This will be your first interaction with other first year students on campus, and we’re excited to make it fun!
