Join us for a cross-cultural and global leadership program in China. This summer, 20 UW students selected for their outstanding campus engagement will travel to Beijing and join a group of 20 incoming international students for a six-day leadership development program. All students will live and study together in Tsinghua University facilities.
Each day, students will explore cultural perspectives of leadership, meet with local business and community leaders, and engage in skill-building and self-reflective opportunities to accelerate their personal leadership development. The Husky Presidential Ambassadors Leadership Institute will help students become global leaders who think beyond boundaries. Get an early start to your Husky Experience, connect with current UW students, and build your leadership skills!
Principal elements of the daily schedule
Leadership Workshop: We believe that leadership can be taught and grows out of experience, practice and reflection. Each day, participants will engage in a series of experiential skill-building activities and discussions that will build leadership capacity. Workshop topics will focus on self-awareness and cultural perspectives on leadership, interpersonal interaction and cross-cultural communication, group dynamics and civic responsibility, and personal behavior and leader mindsets.
Leadership Chat with Local Leader: Students will have the unique opportunity to meet with local government officials, business leaders and community change agents. These local leaders will share their personal journeys and perspectives on leadership. Students will observe diverse leadership philosophies in action. Some Leadership Chats will include a field trips and community service projects.
Group Reflection: Reflection is a critical part of developing leadership skills. We will gather as a group each evening to reflect on our insights gained from the day and discuss how we will apply our learning to our lives and Husky Experience.
