  • 9/22 - Husky Kick-Off W Leader

    Sunday, September 22rd, 12:30pm-5:00pm @ Dempsey Indoor

    Join us for Husky Kick-off as a W leader! Help welcome students at Playfair and we will train you on how to fill the "W". This team is arguably the most critical component of Husky Kick-Off. The team will work with an FYP pro-staff to help form the "W" on the field for the professional photo. Obviously, we only get one shot at it, so it has to be perfect. You will be served lunch!

    Similar to One Bus Away, Dawg Daze Leaders will lead students head to the Zoo as a group. Please report to the First Year Programs Office for your Dawg Daze Goes to the Zoo Materials 15 minutes before tour departure, then meet your group of students on the Suzzallo Steps right after and depart 10 minutes after the Meet-Up & Go time shown above. Tickets will be provided for you! A trip to the zoo will approximately take about 3 hours depending on your group!

  • 9/16 - Dance Party @ Odegaard Training

    Dawg Daze Leaders who are signed up to volunteer for the Dance Party @ Odegaard will attend a short orientation right after Dawg Daze Leader Training.

  • 9/18 - Annual Decoration Challenge (Judging)

    Wednesday, September 18, 8 AM - 12 PM, Meet @ Mary Gates Hall (MGH), Room 120

    Dawg Daze Leaders will be going around campus, visiting department offices that are participating in the annual Decoration Challenge! You will be judging decorations that were made for Dawg Daze and for welcoming new students. Points will be determined from the following:

    Husky Pride/Best Theme

    -Overall effort and enthusiasm within the office environment

    -Level of excitement among staff

    Creativity 

    -Best use of supplies given

    -Unique innovations or contributions within the department

    Incorporation of Department Mission

    -Theme or design that illustrates goals of department

    Department Involvement

    -Involvement of all staff (professional and student if applicable) in decorating

    Presentation 

    -Overall appearance

    -Eye pleasing, thought provoking nature of décor

  • 9/19 - Zumba Party

    September 19th, 5:30pm- 7:00pm, IMA Second Floor Gym D

    Kick off Dawg Daze by coming to the IMA for our first ever, ZUMBA PARTY! This fun, Latin dance inspired class will have you smiling and sweating! Volunteers will help check in students and count the number of participants. After that, hop in and get a fun work-out. 

  • 9/19 - Glow-ga (Glow-in-the-Dark Yoga)

    September 19th, 6:30pm-8:00pm, IMA Second Floor

    After the ZUMBA PARTY stick around for the glow in the dark after party! Bring your yoga mat and grab a glow stick (or 10) for our first ever Glow-ga class! Volunteers will help check-in students and count the number of students participating in the event. Feel free to stick around and enjoy the Glow-ga party. 

  • 9/20 - Free Popcorn at Quad Flicks

    September 20th, 6:50pm-10:30pm, Meet at FYP (MGH 120), then head to Quad

    Help hand out popcorn and manage lines during the event so students can grab a seat before the movie starts. Love snacks and outdoor movies? We could use your skills and passion at our annual Quad Flicks! 

  • 9/20 - Late Night Carnival Set-Up Crew

    September 20th, 6:50pm-9:30pm, FYP Office, then Meet at Suzzallo Steps

    Check-in with Alexa (425) 736-0881. Then, help Resident Hall Student Association (RHSA) staff set up the carnival games and food booths. Once set up is complete, wait for the staffing crew to arrive, then, feel free to enjoy the Carnival! First check-in at FYP, and leave FYP by 6:55 to check-in with Alexa (425)736-0881 at Suzzallo steps. Event starts at 10pm.

  • 9/20 - Late Night Carnival Crew

    September 20th, 9:20PM-1AM, FYP Office, then Suzzallo Steps

    As with most of the biggest Dawg Daze events, some students tend to get a bit crazy with Husky spirit. Volunteers will make sure no students get too enthused and rowdy (e.g. crowd control), assist RHSA when needed, and facilitate the gaming booths and food on Red Square. After the Carnival, help RHSA staff with tear down and clean up. Check-in with Drew (206-571-2772) 

  • 9/20 & 9/21 - Navigating Dawg Daze 101

    9/20 & 9/21, 3:30 PM - 5:15 PM, Savery Hall (SAV), Room 260

    Volunteers will help with crowd control, and help build connections! 

  • 9/20 - Quad Flicks: Mystery Movie

    Quad Flicks is always a fun night. Most new students will be attending Quad Flicks and, of course, there will be a few returning students as well. You can expect to see the quad jam-packed with students awaiting the mystery movie. Volunteers will help set up the biggest movie screen we've ever had a Dawg Daze! MUST wear closed toe shoes and bring your strong muscles! 

    There may be time where you will have to wait around, please bring a frisbee or a ball to throw on the lawn while you wait. Look for Trevor Whiton when you arrive for direction (206-605-9006)

    Help with checking in students and crowd control before the show. You'll also get access to the show afterwards! Volunteers will help with ice cream scoping after the show ends. Event starts at 8pm, first shift meet at FYP office first, second shift meet at Meany Hall.

  • 9/21 - Dance Party @ Odegaard

    Event Team

    September 21st, 2019 from 8:30pm-10:30pm and 10:30pm-12:30am, Check in at FYP (MGH120), then Odeegard Library

    The Event Team will manage the refreshments, distribute glowsticks and giveaways, assist with social media, and tear down the event. Odegaard Undergraduate Library invites you to dance the night away! See the library’s beautiful atrium transformed into a dance floor with professional lighting, great tunes, and free food! Event starts at 9pm, leave FYP by 8:20pm.

  • 9/21 - Fries & First-Gen

    Saturday, 9/21, 12 - 1:30 PM, @ Ethnic Cultural Center (ECC), Unity Rooms (104, 106).

    We are looking to have Dawg Daze Leaders who are First-Gen and would be willing to say a few words about their experience to connect with First-Gen students coming into UW. Support the students, mingle, connect, and have fun! 

  • 9/21 - Out-of-State Mixer

    Saturday, September 21, 2019, 2 - 3:30 PM, Mary Gates Commons

    The Out-of-State Mixer will have a scavenger hunt around campus. Dawg Daze Leaders will be supporting the event by being in each station tracking and helping students around the area. Support, mingle, and enjoy the event and meet people from around the country/the world!

  • 9/22 - Fun and Games with UW Recreation

    September 22nd, 2019 from 4:30pm-8:30pm at IMA

    Volunteers will be helping with general assistance with directing students and coordinating activities (such as dodge ball) as needed. As well as, helping with facility st-up and clean-up. Come explore the IMA (Intramural Activities Building) and take part in all that UW Recreation has to offer. Head down for fun and join the action with log rolling, dodgeball, basketball, volleyball, badminton, roller skating, archery, salsa dance lessons, tango lessons and swing dance lessons. Event starts at 5pm, arrive by 4:30pm.

  • 9/22 - New Student Convocation & President's Picnic

    September 22nd, 8:15am-12:30pm, Hec Ed (Basketball Stadium) SE Rollup Doors

    *DRESS CODE DOWN BELOW*

    You must wear:

    Shirts: Black shirt/UW shirt/Dawg Daze shirts

    Bottoms: Khakis/black jeans/black pants

    Shoes: whatever is comfortable


    You will work with professional staff from the Office of Ceremonies to assist with various tasks and ensure that Convocation goes smoothly. Check-in with Kip (cell 805-570-5892) in the morning and with staff before being dismissed. You will be provided lunch but bring a snack if you need to eat before 12:30pm. Do not need to check in at FYP before shift and do not bring a bag unless necessary due to limited storage. 

    ** Returning volunteers or responsible, organized individuals preferred. Must wear professional black bottoms and shoes along with Dawg Daze T-shirt.

    Fall Fling is one of the largest events of the school year and, this year, we'll be back on the HUB Lawn! The Lawn becomes absolutely packed with students, and with this year's performers, expect a capacity crowd. Volunteers will help with general set up, perform crowd control, and teach students how to use Tagboard. Volunteers will also get backstage access! Wear close-toed shoes.

  • 9/23 - HUB Crawl

    September 23rd, 2019 from 5:30pm-9:30pm at HUB Front Desk

    The HUB still feels new and fresh and it's ready to take on some new students. The HUB Crawl is going to be an event of epic proportions. Volunteers will assist with a vareity of tasks and are bound to have a good time. Event starts at 6pm, arrive by 5:30pm.

    Volunteers will help manage lines for all the activities on the first floor and HUB Games. (two shifts, first-half 5-7:30 and second-half 7:30-10) 

  • 9/24 - Dawg Daze Goes to the Mariners

    September 24th, 2019 from 5:30pm-11:00pm, Meet at FYP Office, then Suzzallo Steps

    Going to a Mariners game isn't just about going to watch baseball, it's about becoming a part of Seattle culture. The Mariners are a symbol of Seattle just like Starbucks or the Space Needle. Volunteers will help navigate the bus system, usher students at key intersections along the way, as well as act as crowd control. Then, enjoy the game! Tickets will be provided. 

  • 9/24 - RSO Fair Set Up

    Dawg Daze Leaders meet at the HUB Student Activities Office (SAO) and will help set up for  the RSO fair at the Quad and Red Square.

  • 9/25 - CLUE Trivia Night

    Wednesday, September 25, 2019, 6:10 PM - 6:40 PM, @ Mary Gates Hall (MGH), Commons

    Help bring portable mic and speaker to MGH Commons for the event and assist the event's needs! Feel free to stay for the event if you want to! 

    Event goes from 6:30 PM - 9 PM.

  • 9/26 - ECC Block Party

    September 26th, 5:30pm-8:30pm, Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center (when there, text FYP 802-490-5012)

    Make new friends and reconnect with old friends at the ECC Block Party! Volunteers willl assist with check-in and registration. Check-in with Cicero Delfin.

  • 9/27 - Technology Expo

    Friday, September 27, 2019, 10 AM - 2 PM, @ Odegaard Undergraduate Library, South Atrium

    You will be helping out distributing materials for the event and be a guide to guests answering questions they may have! 

  • 9/27 - Up Your Ave

    September 27th, 2:15pm-6:30pm. Meet at FYP (MGH 120), will walk over to the AVE together 

    Volunteers will be UW representatives in custom "Up Your Ave" t-shirts and walk up and down the Ave answering questions and distributing AVEnture passports. Also, help our staff partner for the event, the Chamber of Commerce, as necessary. Please arrive promptly for training at FYP. Up Your Ave t-shirts are provided!

  • 9/20 - International Community BBQ

    September 20th, 3:30pm-6:30pm, Gas Works Park *text FYP when there at (802) 490-5012*

    Meet students and community members while enjoying soccer, frisbee, and food. Volunteers will be grilling or assisting other grillers throughout the event. FIUTS invites you to join their community BBQ at Gas Works Park! We need help with grilling hot dogs for more than 600 people. Volunteers will be grilling hot dogs or assisting other grillers. No food handler permit is required. Volunteers are welcome for any shifts between 3:30-8 p.m.

  • 9/20 - UW Recreation: Mindful Tea & Meditation

    September 20th, 9:30am-11:00am Meet in FYP (MGH 120), then Grieg Garden

    Volunteers will help check Dawg Passes and setup tea. Enjoy some tea and guided mediation at the Grieg Garden! Learn more about the benefits of meditation and how it can help mitigate the potential daily stress of being college student.

    Volunteer will help ensure the presentation is setup correctly for viewing. Feel free to stay for the event, join us to learn valuable information to understand student loans, credit cards and gain other financial planning resources.

  • 9/23 - Ride to the Center of the Universe

    September 23rd, 1:45pm-2:30pm, meet at Campus Parkway between Elm & Lander hall  (when there, text FYP 802-490-5012)

    Volunteers will help with the sign-up waiver form, help ensure that there aren't any stragglers, make sure groups can safely cross traffic crosses etc. Ride to one of Seattle’s quirkiest neighborhoods with other UW students! We will begin our trip to Fremont, aka the “center of the universe” from Campus Parkway. It’s easy to explore Seattle by bike, so grab your bike and helmet and ride with us! It would be great if Dawg Daze leaders could help lead the ride to Fremont as TS staff may be unavailable to do so. Those with biking experience/knowledge would be much appreciated.

  • 9/23 - Technology Expo

    Monday, September 23, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Odegaard Undergraduate Library (OUGL), South Atrium

    Volunteers will help distribute passports and answer questions regarding prize drawing. 

    Event goes from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM.

  • 9/23 & 9/24 - Dawg Daze Pitch, Chip and Putt Contest

    September 23rd, 9:45am-12pm Meet at UW Golf Driving Range (4209 Mary Gates Memorial Dr NE) (when there, text FYP 802-490-5012)

    Help to monitor the event by recording the names of the participants, keeping track of the scores or distances, and keeping the games going. Come try out the UW Golf Driving Range and show your game in the Dawg Daze Pitch, Chip & Putt Contest. Golf Range staff will be on hand to guide and assist as needed. Event starts at 10am.   • 9/24 - ACMS Information Session

    Volunteer will help with technology set up, feel free to stay for an information session to learn about Math major options!

  • 9/24 - Engineering Launch

    Tuesday, September 24, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Husky Union Building (HUB), Room 211

    Setup (3:30-4:45pm) + first part of event

  • 9/24 - Self-Defense Essentials for New Students

    Volunteer will ensure the room has all furnishings moved to the side, with a ring of chairs at the periphery.

    12:00 PM - 12:15 PM Close 

    Volunteer would help move everything back to place. 

     

    Volunteers are free to stay during the event, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM and participate as well! 

  • 9/24 - The Money Zone

    September 24th, 9:30 am - 10:00 am, FYP Office, then Thompson Hall (THO), Room 119

    Volunteers will be setting up the room and the powerpoint presentation. Feel free to stay and get tips about budgeting, determining your wants & needs and find resources to assist you with your potential earnings.

  • 9/24 - UW Comedy Club Dawg Daze Show

    Volunteers would be needed from 6:45 PM until 8:30 PM to help usher people into the auditorium, get people situated, and answer questions about Dawg Daze. 

  • 9/25 - FIUTS Wednesday Lunch

    Wednesday, September 25, 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM, Husky Union Building (HUB), South Ballroom.

    We need help with food prep, room set up, food running, greeting, and clean up. None of these jobs require training or food handler permits. Volunteers are welcome for shifts between 9:30am - 11:30 am, 11:00am - 12:00pm, 11:30am - 12:30 pm, 12:00pm - 1:30 pm, and 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm.

  • 9/26 - Sustainability: It's in our Nature

    This happy hour social is an event exclusively for UW transfer students! Volunteers come meet other students who understand the process of transferring into the University of Washington. Mingle with incoming transfer students and have fun! This no-host event is brought to you by UW Transfer Ambassadors (look for us wearing Dawg Daze t-shirts!). We provide the space and fun, food and drink is on your own.

    On-call volunteers do a wide variety of tasks. They are asked to cover shifts when registered volunteers are unable to fulfill their commitment, so being an on-call volunteer typically exposes a DD volunteer to a wide variety of events. On-call volunteers also help the FYP staff with random tasks throughout the day. When you are on call and everything is running smoothly, feel free to grab a snack in the office!
