OLs assist incoming freshmen, transfer students, and their families in their transition to the University of Washington. OLs play a vital role in the Advising & Orientation (A&O) program. OLs work closely with first-year students and their families communicating a wide variety of topics including academics, student involvement, housing options, and more.
SOLs are responsible for the duties outlined above as well as working collaboratively to support the learning and development of the orientation staff, facilitate small groups of incoming students, and serve as a peer coach and role model to new OLs around effective facilitation, articulating FYP values, and standards of programmatic operation.
First Year Programs fosters a successful undergraduate student experience through strategic programming that focuses on positive academic transitions and the development of learning communities. Through partnerships with faculty, staff, alumni, and student leaders our programs create the space for students to define how they will engage, learn, and thrive at the University of Washington.
